D i s t a n c e E d u c a t i o n Television off-campus courses are courses which use a
Public Broadcasting System (PBS) television program or other
recorded video with on-campus class meetings as determined by
the instructor. Course activities are designed to be
completed by students off-campus without traditional weekly class
meetings. Higher Education Instructional Television (HEITV)
has been supplying television off-campus courses for the State College System for
many years. These courses are available on WNPB and
on-line credit
can be earned through participating State College System
institutions.
Electronic internet courses are courses which
use electronic communications and the Internet with video, audio
and other distance education methods, as appropriate.
Computer resources and PPP/SLIP connectivity are required.
Some courses will require on-campus class meetings; others will
be available completely by distance modalities. Electronic
courses are divided into two categories: West Virginia
Northern online courses and Southern Regional Electronic Campus
(SREC) internet courses. SREC courses are West Virginia Northern
courses which have been evaluated and accepted on the State
level for inclusion on the SREC. These courses are freely
transferable throughout the state institutions in the 14
southern region states. West Virginia Northern
Community College online electronic courses may have an on-campus
requirement, but SREC internet electronic courses do not. Specific information about distance education internet courses can be found at http://www.wvnorthern.edu/ai/srec/index.cfm?
